CM gives stress on road connectivity to Lada circle
ITANAGAR, Feb10: A development package for Lada area is being evolved soon in consultation with local MLA and district administration, announced Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu while addressing the general pubic, GBs and PRIs at Lada circle today.
He informed that Lada Circle Hq. will be connected by road communication under PMGSY on priority with the road construction from Bameng to Lada. The CM asked the RWD to expedite work on survey & investigation for speedy preparation of DPR to facilitate early sanction from Govt. of India.
Responding to a memorandum from the local MLA Kumar Waii, Chief Minister said that creation for a separate CD block for Khenewa will be considered in the next Cabinet Meeting; the request for introducing weekly helicopter service will also be considered by the Govt. He sought the Cooperation of the public, PRIs and public leaders for the development of Lada Circle.
Khandu also said that Govt. is giving priority to the education sector while adding that various measures have been taken up by the Govt. to ensure quality education and encourage enrollment in schools. The Chief Minister further appealed the people to protect the rich wildlife of the area. He also laid Foundation stone for construction of Tourist Lodge at Lada Headquarter.

People’s involvement must to conserve wildlife

ITANAGAR, Feb 10: Before dying down the controversies regarding the reported killing of a Royal Bengal tiger in a remote village of Arunachal Pradesh, another bizarre incident of devouring of such a big cat in Jorhat district of Assam has raised eyebrows among wildlife conservationists and lovers.
However, the latter incident could not generate much media attraction as the former one could.
Significantly, mobile service provider Aircel under the aegis of WWF published an advertisement in this daily with a message "Save Tiger’’ after the reported killing. According to WWF only 1411 tigers left in wild till date throughout the country.
The incident forced government to send a high level enquiry team to investigate the matter. "There was no basis for the report of a tiger being killed by villagers in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district last month", a news agency reported on Feb. 8 quoting the police sources.
"The incident has been blown out of the proportion to divert the attention of the problems of the mainland," DCF Pekyom Ringu told this reporter. North East has always been their target and whenever they get a chance, they accuse us. This case was also not exception to that, he quipped.
Not only in Arunachal Pradesh but in various parts of the country many rare and endangered species are being killed by poachers and many have already started their reverse counting to bid farewell to this ‘beautiful’ earth. Vulture is, of course, one of them.
Recently, a news was reported in this daily regarding rampant killing of musk deer by poachers and for their preservation. The report said that musk deer in their natural habitation in Upper Siang district has fallen prey to poachers and mass huntings. The NGO had fervently appealed to both the state and central governments to take immediate step for preservation of the endangered species from being extinct. But, what follow up action or initiative has been taken by the governments in this regard is not known.
Recently, this reporter has seen selling of trapped rodents in large quantity in open market near Ganga. Killing of rodents may not be a serious offence but it also clearly reflects the cruelty to animal.
While emphasizing on the need of organizing awareness campaign on the need to protect wildlife, Ringu said that unless and until people are made aware of the importance of protecting wildlife it is near impossible on the part of the Govt to succeed in its endeavour.
Lamenting the shortage of manpower in state forest department, Ringu informed that, presently, there are approximately 1200 employees right from top to bottom level which is insufficient.
It has become our habit to throw blame on government on every occasion. As Govt alone cannot help preserve and protect the wildlife, we, as a sane citizen must rise to the occasion and create awareness among masses on the need to protect and preserve wildlife.
Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and Galo Welfare Society (GWS) have done great job in this direction by encouraging community members to use replica of hornbill beak for their traditional headgear and fixing the number of Mithuns to be sacrificed on various occasions. This would go a long way in protecting our state bird and animal. Rest of our learned communities should follow the example set by both the NGOs.
Official team takes stock of drainage problem
ITANAGAR, Feb 10: MLA Techi Kaso, DC, Capital Padmini Singla, Rotu Techi, Executive Engineer, PWD, Naharlagun Division and Talo Potom, ADM cum Estate Officer, today foot marched to various sectors of Naharlagun township to assess the problem of encroachment on drains and road side.
During the inspection, sector committees were apprised clearly that administration has decided to clear all the drains of Naharlagun and people encroached upon drain were asked to remove it on their own cost within given time else it shall be removed by administration, according to an official release.
Some of the sector committees like of Dokum colony themselves came forward to render all assistance to administration in this noble venture as they have witnessed the heavy damage caused to their colony in recent fire accident and inability of fire brigade to reach right location due to roadside encroachments, the release said.
Kaso appealed to the city dwellers to fully cooperate in this cleanliness drive so that entire town can be saved from flood like situation during rainy days. “It is our city and every citizen should shoulder this responsibility to make it better & beautiful place”.

APLS to encourage budding talents
ITANAGAR, Feb 10: To encourage the flair for writing, the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) has finalized a short story and poem competition for the college students of the state.
The entries, duly signed by the principal of the respective colleges, should reach the cultural affairs commissioner’s office near the state museum here by March 30 next.
The entries will be screened by a panel of juries and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners in each category will be given a cash award of Rs 1,000, Rs 750 and Rs 500 respectively.
This is one of the activities the APLS has decided on to encourage budding talents and give them exposure, APLS president YD Thongchi said.
ITANAGAR, Feb 10: A training cum exposure visit sponsored by NABARD under Capacity Building for Adoption of Technology (CAT) on “Scientific Dairy Farming: A Step Towards Livelihood Improvement” will be conducted from Feb 15 to 17 at ICAR Basar. All together 25 progressive farmers from different district of Arunachal Pradesh will be trained for care and management of dairy animals, fodder production technology, processing and value addition of milk, bankable dairy project preparation etc. by various experts both from ICAR and State Veterinary Department.
The training programme is scheduled in such a way that maximum practical exposure will be given to the farmers, said an official release.

PDS scenario reviewed in state level meet
ITANAGAR, Feb 10: Lokam Tassar, Parliamentary secretary (F & CS) has stressed the need of revamping Public Distribution System (PDS). He was addressing a state level review meeting of PDS held at SIRD conference hall on Feb 9 last.
Present system of drawal and distribution of wheat and levy sugar through state nominee be discontinued with immediate effect and the district nominee be entrusted the task of drawal and distribution of wheat and levy sugar for transparency and accountability, he suggested. He also expressed his desire to establish small atta chakki mills in all location where FCI depots exist.
While explaining the problems of poor allocation of food grains by Govt of India, Tassar urged all district food and civil supplies officers to gear up strict monitoring and vigilance activities.
He suggested that all administrative out post officers like CO, EAC be instructed to stop issue of special permit of rice for preparation of country liquor and added that requirement of rice for floating population like BRTF, ITBP, CRPF, IRBn, labours of new mega projects, mission schools etc may be worked out separately for claiming separate allocation from the Centre.
Expressing concern over the mushrooming of new Fair Price Shops when there is deficit of food grains allocation made by the Centre, he suggested immediate stoppage of issue of fresh FPS license till improvement of food grains allocation.
Tassar, however, informed that allocation and distribution of kerosene oil is being streamlined and also asked all DF and CSOs to strictly monitor the distribution of kerosene oil in their respective district.
F & CS Commissioner Y D Thongchi expressing concern over the large number of court cases, informed that delay in payment of Hill Transport subsidy by Govt of India resulted in accumulation of large number of court cases. He urged upon the district food and civil supplies officers to examine all contract documents properly before executing any carriage agreement with transporters to avoid future complicacy.
The district F and CS officers participated in the meeting and suggested various measures for improvement of PDS operation in their respective district.
Earlier, the director of Food and Civil Supplies B Siram in his welcome address explained the present PDS scenario of the state and narrated the problems and challenges confronting the department, according to an official release.

‘Establish polytechnic at Yachuli’
